David Trickey

A British national, based in Italy for the last 8 years, David focuses on closing the strategic gaps between an organization's international ambitions and the ability of its people to realize those ambitions at an operational level as leaders and managers. He has lead numerous cross-border integration processes at an organizational, business unit and team level acting as a trainer, writer, facilitator, consultant and coach.

Recent projects have included a range of intercultural training sessions for Oil & Gas companies as well as European integration workshops for HR teams, a workshop facilitator over the last four years for a major global food products company during their international Executive Development Program, Pan-European Remote Management workshops at business unit manager and board level for a newly merged semi-conductor company with an HQ in Japan and operations throughout Europe, a three-week management development program for Chinese managers for a major European insurance company expanding in China, Multicultural Communication workshops for members of 8 European central banks, International Project Team Leadership programs for a German mobile operator and a cross-cultural integration workshop for a strategic alliance in the defense industry.

Insights into the cultural impact of large scale mergers was gained in his six month association as a cross-cultural consultant with Alitalia and KLM. David scripted and directed a number of training videos to build awareness of Italian/Dutch working styles. However, the reality of international business is that cross-border alliances have a 50/50 chance of failure. This one was one such case. The learning, however, was immense.

International leadership and cross-cultural integration were the themes facilitated by David in a pan-European development program: Leading Partnerships in Airbus - a series of 5-day international leadership workshops for the A380 start-up teams from four countries.

David has designed and delivered a range of cross-cultural management programs for the Finmeccanica Group including integration workshops for MBDA and Alenia Marconi Systems, and Group wide workshops through IriManagement in Rome. In early 2006 he will be delivering a two-day workshop on Cross-Cultural Management for Group wide representatives from their Sales & Marketing area.

For three years he was the principle cross-cultural facilitator for the ADEPT program in Rome and Athens with representatives from the consortium partners of 7 major telecom operators. In Hungary he worked with the hosts MATEV to deliver Working in a Cross-Cultural Environment for European telecom managers.

He has developed five commissioned video packages in the area of international development including cross-functional teamwork, international project management (both for Alenia), cross-cultural management (for a major telecom operator) and international team leadership. He is also co-author of the multimedia training package Managing a World of Difference: working successfully across cultures, published in 2003.

He is a regular faculty member in cross cultural management and OD in several MBA programs in the UK and Italy as well as a founding faculty member for the Diploma in InterCultural Management with The University of Cambridge which is in its 5th year. David is also highly active in two corporate universities - ENI and Electrolux - where he has acted as a cross-cultural consultant for the last six years. A regular presenter at intercultural conferences, his main research interests include trust building at a team and organizational level across distance and culture.
